Regional Director - University Relations

Expected Start Date: January 5th, 2022

Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000 annually

Locations: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin
 

Responsibilities

This role is responsible for relationship-building and stewardship of existing AIFS Abroad partners within a territory of assigned states within the U.S. and potentially some international institutions. This position, in consultation with the VP of Institutional Partnerships, will create and implement a strategy to maintain existing key account institutional relationships, identify and pursue potential new institutional partners, cultivate opportunities for customized, faculty-led programs and recruit students for AIFS study abroad, intern abroad programs. The Regional Director will be responsible for meeting annual enrollment goals for the assigned territory.

This exempt position is Full-Time, Monday - Friday, (usually) 9:00 am-5:00 pm, and operates remotely. This position requires US-based travel, by car and/or airplane, estimated at 30% seasonally - some nights and weekends required based on seasonal business needs/position requirements.

We are looking to hire three (3) people for this position, and are ideally looking for applicants comfortable working remotely and located in one of the following geographic regions:

  • South (Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas)
  • Northeast (Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont)
  • Midwest (Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin)

Primary Job Functions

Account Management (50%)

  • Represent AIFS Abroad at universities and colleges within an assigned territory.
  • Maintain and develop close relationships with key account universities and colleges in an assigned territory. This is a critical responsibility of the position.
  • Proactively seek connections to faculty members on campus where formal programs are established to increase awareness of Global Experiences and our ability to custom design programs.
  • Act as the primary point of contact to campus advisors.
  • Assist in the onboarding and consequent training of study abroad staff and campus colleagues to ensure full understanding of AIFS Abroad study and intern programs.
  • Attend key study abroad fairs and events, working with your regional Admissions counterpart to plan for campus visits and staffing of events.
  • Consistently update school relationship data, identifying trends that indicate changes and need for intervention, especially to maintain relationships with key accounts.
  • Promote Customized Faculty-led and hybrid opportunities to partner institutions in assigned territory. A financial incentive is available for confirmation of new programs.
  • Track trends and policies affecting international education and keep the team informed of relevant developments.
  • Maintain contact with institutions related to GE promotional materials and digital listings in programs such as Simplicity, Horizons, and Studio Abroad and liaise with marketing staff as needed.
  • Work with participants of the Ambassadors program in your region to facilitate additional outreach opportunities, in consultation with the VP of Alumni.
  • Monitor travel and expense budget.

Strategic Development of Accounts (30%)

  • Develop and implement annual/semester plans for meeting school relationship and student recruitment goals in coordination with VP for Institutional Partnerships, and your Admissions counterpart.
  • Deliver an exceptional level of customer service to VIP schools identified in your region, identifying ways to further assist the school and bolster the relationship.
  • Develop and implement an outreach plan for affiliated colleges and universities that typically send fewer than 10 students annually with the aim of increasing enrollment.
  • Liaise with the Marketing team to develop and share additional resources with your schools.

Industry Representation (20%)

  • Actively submit conference proposals and assist with identifying opportunities for the University Relations team.
  • Represent AIFS at appropriate national and regional meetings and conferences and alumni meetings.
  • Contribute to the industry in a way of your choosing and in consultation with the VP of Institutional Partnerships. This can include written contributions, presentations, committee service, or other volunteer leadership opportunities within reason.

Expectations for the Role

  • At 30 days you will have met the team and started training on primary processes.
  • At 60 days you will have completed internal training and started familiarizing yourself with all aspects of our programming and processes.
  • At 90 days you’ll begin working independently and establishing long-term relationships.
  • By six months you’ll have an established workflow and set goals for the coming year.
  • By one year you’ll be fully integrated in the role.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience working with students of diverse backgrounds who have been historically underrepresented in education abroad programming.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Minimum of four years’ experience in international education administration.
  • Study abroad, intern abroad, teach abroad, or other international experience preferred.
  • Second language ability preferred.
  • Residency in one of the states within the geographic location is strongly preferred.

What to Expect From Our Recruitment Process

  1. First Step: Submit your application for the role through the AIFS Careers site
  2. Resume Review: If your application meets our criteria, you will be asked to submit a 5-minute recording responding to a prompt.
  3. First Interview: Successful candidates will be invited to a video with a panel of AIFS staff. Usually 60-90 mins.
  4. Assessments: Successful candidates will be asked to complete strengths and personality assessments.
  5. Second Interview: Successful candidates will have one or two final interviews with AIFS leadership.
  6. Final Step: Successful candidates will be emailed with an offer letter.
  7. Training: Once selected for the role, you will be expected to visit the main AIFS offices in CT or MD for a training period of up to 2 weeks.
